Concert - Combattimento

Combattimento

presents their new album:

Bach Restored

What did a man like Bach do in his spare time? Make music of course, together with his two eldest sons Wilhelm Friedemann and Carl Philipp Emanuel, among others! Because there was little repertoire for three harpsichords, Bach himself composed two concertos for three harpsichords and strings (BWV 1063-64). Like much of Bach's music, these works contain recycled material. Combattimento's latest album, which will be released on June 1 by Etcetera, is entirely devoted to reconstructions of lost Bach works, including the concertos on which the above-mentioned harpsichord concertos are based.

Harpsichordist, musicologist and co-artistic director of Combattimento, Pieter Dirksen, spent years conducting in-depth research into the origins of the harpsichord works mentioned, but also into three other compositions by Bach. After thorough “restoration work”, an album has been created that consists entirely of never-before-made reconstructions of five works by Bach from the late Weimar period (c.1716) to the later period in Leipzig (c.1740).

On June 15, 2024, 8:00 PM, Combattimento will present the album in a concert in the English Church in Amsterdam. The concert is for invited guests, friends and press, but tickets are also on sale for the public. The ticket price includes coffee/tea upon entry, a concert of approximately one hour with repertoire from the new CD and a drink afterwards (beer/wine/soft drinks) so that we can all toast to Bach Restored.

Combattimento: Cynthia Freivogel, Quirine van Hoek, Lena ter Schegget (guest), Seamus Hickey (vi/vla) – violin, Marjolein Dispa – viola, Diederik van Dijk – cello, Erik Olsman – double bass, Sören Leupold – lute, Pieter Dirksen – harpsichord
