Concert - Vita Duo

VitaDuo

Vitaly Vatulya (saxophone) and Maria Nemtsova (piano)

The VitaDuo has been recognized as one of the most interesting ensembles performing in the chamber music world today. The rare combination saxophone – piano was formed in 2006, when the Duo won their first Prize at the prestigious festival in Moscow.

"Imaginarium: A Minimalist Musical Voyage"

Step into the realm of the imagination with VitaDuo's captivating concert program, "Imaginarium," where minimalist music takes center stage. Embark on a journey through a carefully curated selection of compositions that invite listeners to explore the serene beauty, rhythmic intricacies, and introspective contemplation of minimalism.

The program commences with the haunting melodies and hypnotic repetitions of Philip Glass's "Violin Sonata," reimagined for saxophone and piano, setting a mesmerizing tone for the evening. As the performance unfolds, VitaDuo guides audiences through a diverse array of minimalist masterpieces, including Mellits' "Mara’s Lullaby," Nyman's "Shaping the Curve," Glass's "Facades," Adams's "Postmark," and Fitkin's "Gate." Each piece offers a unique exploration of minimalist aesthetics, ranging from tranquil serenity to pulsating energy, showcasing the versatility and expressive depth of the saxophone and piano duo.

There is also an Eric Satie piece, which at the time could be seen rebelling against the traditional Western idea of `development' in music. Just as the minimalists were to do later, Satie started to work with fragments (Motifs, he called them) of musical material, randomly juxtaposed, repeated and transposed so as to negate the idea of argument or discussion which is fundamental to so much Western music.

With seamless collaboration and virtuosic musicianship, VitaDuo creates a spellbinding tapestry of sound that transports listeners to the far reaches of the imagination. Join VitaDuo on an unforgettable musical voyage through the boundless landscapes of minimalism in "Imaginarium," where the possibilities are as limitless as the imagination itself.
