A program about the stirrings of man's soul, set to music by English composers from the Renaissance to the 21st century. In addition to works by Gibbons, Byrd, Hilton and Pearsall , TIEN sings 'Walking with Thomas Hardy' by William Knight (1986), an exploration of Thomas Hardy's emotional journey after the death of his wife Emma. In addition, choral songs by Finzi , who lost his father when he was seven and his three brothers in the First World War, and by Parry , who lost a number of students in the same war.
Where words alone are sometimes not sufficient, the beautiful music of these composers finds a way to our hearts.
