ABBOTS HILL SCHOOL CHAMBER CHOIR
Abbot’s Hill School is an independent school for girls situated near to Hemel Hempstead in England. The Chamber Choir has been in existence since 1999 and comprised of 50 or so girls aged 12 to 16. It is the only auditioned choir of the six groups in the school and places are fiercely contested. Singing is a very popular activity and the girls welcome any opportunity to perform.
During its short history the choir visited The Netherlands in 2001, took part in the International Choral Festival in Jersey in 2005 and 2007 and reached the finals of the World Choir Games in Graz, Austria, in 2009, Belgium in 2014, The Netherlands in 2016 and back in Belgium in 2018. It consistently secures a place at the National Finals on the Festival of Music for Youth of Great Britain and performs regularly both at school and prestigious music venues around the country.
The choir is directed by Keith Harrison; the school’s Director of Music and is accompanied by Jeremy Cooke. It has a varied repertoire which includes sacred and secular music; the choir is equally at home performing items from the Musical Theatre and Popular Music genres as well as music appropriate for more formal occasions such as leading worship.
