BLOKKFLØYTISTENE and UNGDOMSBLOKKFLØYTISTENE ST.SUNNIVA and URANIENBORG

Recorder Ensembles from Norway

Started at Uranienborg and St.Sunniva school in 1989, the purpose was to work with the recorder as a full-fledged and serious solo and ensemble instrument. Leaders and conductors: Johan Nicolai Mohn and Svein Egil Skotte. Including beginners and aspirants, there are currently over 150 playing members in the two teams aged 6-26. Most students are involved in ensembles and interaction groups.

Alongside the recorder's traditional classical repertoire, students also receive training in different types of folk music, such as Norwegian, Irish and Latin American. The ensembles have toured in England, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Scotland, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Austria and the USA and have participated in the Oslo International Chamber Music Festival and the Oslo International Church Festival. The ensemble was selected to play at the Nobel Prize winner's concert in Oslo City Hall 2007 and for many years has participated in the productions of Pollicino by Hans Werner Henze and Cinderella by Peter Maxwell Davies at the Norwegian Opera in Oslo. For many years, the ensembles have carried out the project "Young Baroque" in collaboration with string players from Barratt Due and professional musicians from "Barokkanerne". The ensemble has also carried out an exciting jazz project with big band music for recorder orchestra in collaboration with professional jazz musicians and a similar project with folk music from the Balkans in 2015. In the autumn of 2018, the ensemble played again in the Norwegian Opera and participated in the Nordic project "Viking Baroque".
